Detailed information about your education and work experience
Music was Robert Thompson's primary focus when he enrolled at the University of South Florida in 1981. Upon graduation from the University of South Florida in 1984, he received his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Music degrees. His Doctor of Musical Arts (D.M.A.) degree from the Eastman School of Music was awarded to him in 1992 after he had graduated from the University of Rochester. He speaks German really well.
In the years after graduation, he began working for Universal Edition, a European music publishing organization with headquarters in London, Vienna, and New York. In order to give his skills as a producer, Robert Thompson founded Thompson Music Group, LLC in 2008. From 2007 to 2014, he was employed by Purchase College as a Professor of Arts Management, and from 2008 to 2010, he was the Dean of the Conservatory of Music at the University of Southern California.
While working at SUNY Purchase College's arts administration department, where he taught arts & entertainment law and music entrepreneurship classes and served as Dean of Music, he also wrote a book on his experiences.
Robert Thompson will take over as President of the Music Publishers Association of the United States, Inc. in January of 2020. Furthermore, since 2013, he has served as the President of Wise Music Group, which includes the labels G. Schirmer, AMP, Schirmer Theatrical, and Node Records, among others, Founded in 2015 as a division of the Wise Music Group and an arm of the Music Sales Corporation, Schirmer Theatrical is a division of the Wise Music Group. NODE Records was established by Thompson in 2016.
Among his responsibilities at Wise Music Group have been the representation of numerous composers and performers, as well as the publication and production of a broad variety of musical works for film, theater, and commercials. Introducing youngsters to music is something that Robert Thompson is really passionate about doing.
